Memorial services for Robert E. "Bob" Holstedt, 81, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Doug Melius officiating under direction of Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Mr. Holstedt died Sunday, April 29, 2001, in the Sheridan VA Medical Center.

He was born March 7, 1920, in Sheridan to John S. and Maud (Hennen) Holstedt.

He was a 1937 graduate of Sheridan High School and attended the University of Wyoming from 1938 to 1941.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Corps as an aviation cadet, graduating July 3, 1942, as a pilot and second lieutenant.

He married Mary Emily Mothershead of Cheyenne Aug. 1, 1942, in Shreveport, La.

He served with the 34th Bomb Squadron, 17th Bomb Group, flying a B-26 medium bomber in the North African Campaign during World War II. He was wounded in his fifth mission and returned to the United States. He returned to active duty as a pilot for the last year of the war.

He returned to the University of Wyoming Law School after the service, graduated and was admitted to the Wyoming State Bar in 1949. He practiced as an attorney in Sheridan until 1995, when he retired.

He was a member of the Sheridan County Bar Association, American Bar Association, a 50-year member of the State Bar Association and a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church.  He was a member and past president of the Sheridan Jaycees and 1951 Jaycees' "Man of the Year."  He was past president of the Sheridan Kiwanis, served on the Whitney Benefits Board of Directors and was a member of Masonic Lodge #8, Consistory, Kalif Shrine, the Shrine Brass Band and a past potentate of the Shrine.

He was a member of Elks Lodge #520, the American Legion and the Drum and Bugle Corps.  He was a former member of the Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, Sheridan's city planning committee and the rodeo committee.  He also served as a police judge, municipal judge and county and prosecuting attorney for Sheridan County.

He served two terms in the Wyoming Legislature, cosponsoring legislation in 1951 that established the community college system in Wyoming.  He served 18 years on the Wyoming Community College Commission and was attorney for Sheridan College from 1951-95. He was a member and past president of the Sheridan College Foundation.

He received an honorary associate of arts degree from Sheridan College in 1996.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John H., and a sister, Uree Marie Richter.

Survivors include his wife, of Sheridan; a daughter, Marianne Bibbey of Powell; three sons, John R. of Sacramento, Calif., R. Brooke of Salem, Ore., and Craig H. of Wayne, Neb.; and 10 grandchildren.
