OBITUARIES - THE SHERIDAN PRESS - April 3, 2001

Sheridan-native Jess Ellis, 82, of Glenrock died March 27 at his home.

Services will be at a later date at Custer Battlefield National Monument Cemetery in Montana.

Mr. Ellis was born March 26, 1919, in Sheridan to Jesse L. and Vera G. (Range) Ellis.

He grew up in Sheridan.

He later joined the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He served in the Army during World War II and was discharged with the rank of warrant officer.  He received the Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

He married Ada B. Gleason in Buffalo in 1937.  They were later divorced.

He married Kathleen L. Thompson in Hardin, Mont., in 1947.  She died.

He married Jo Fitzhugh in Sheridan in 1985.  They lived in Decker, Mont., and moved to Glenrock in 1990.

He worked on the Shoshoni Dam with the Peter Kiewit Construction Co. and was a diesel-equipment specialist with the U.S. Army 20 years.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge #520 in Sheridan and American Legion Post 8 in Douglas.

He was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy.

Survivors include his wife, of Glenrock; two sons, Jerry of Aurora, Colo., and Rocke of Castle Pines, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Peggy Anderson of Sheridan and Linda Anderson of Glenrock; a sister, Betty Smart of Redvale, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
