Andrew CHERNI 1919 - 1995 SHS 1937

SHERIDAN - Funeral Liturgy for Andrew Cherni, 75, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church by Father Edward Sullivan. Interment will follow at the Elks Cemetery.

Mr. Cherni died July 23, 1995, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Acme to Joseph and Barbara Cherni. He received his primary education at Soldier Creek and Wagner schools and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1937.

Mr. Cherni worked for numerous ranches and then enlisted with the U.S. Navy in the Philippine campaign in naval aviation. He was discharged in 1945.

He married Marion Hoyne in Chicago on Feb. 22, 1949. They moved to Sheridan and ranched at the Wolf Mountain area near Decker, Mont. In 1956, they moved to Ranchester and formed a partnership with the Gwinn Family Ranch were Mr. Cherni lived and worked until his death.

He was a 4-H leader and was active in Farm Bureau, Elks Lodge No. 520 and Tongue River Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed raising cattle and farming.

Mr. Cherni was a member of St Edmund's Catholic Church in Ranchester.

Survivors Include his wife; his sons, Mark of Ranchester and Dr. Matthew of Dayton; his daughters, Dr. Rita Chernl-Smith of Amarlllo, Texas, and Dr. Judith A. Cherni of Lincoln, Neb.; his sister, Elsie of Sheridan; his brothers, Joe, Steve, George, Mike, Leslie, Rudy and William Cherni, all of Sheridan; and three grandsons.

Memorials either to the Elks Cemetery Fund or to the V.A. Hospital in care of Delphlne Toner, First Interstate Bank, Sheridan, 82801.
