OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - December 27, 2002

SHERIDAN - Funeral services for Sheridan resident Franklin "Jay" Barnes, 84, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Champion-Ferries Funeral Home in Sheridan by the Rev. Douglas Goodwin.  Interment of cremains will be at a later date.

He died Dec. 22, 2002, at Sheridan Manor.

Born Sept. 25, 1918, he was the son of Perry E. and Bessie (Embler) Barnes; and graduated from Sheridan High School.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

On Dec. 31, 1946, he married Marjorie Green in Hardin, Mont.

He did auto body work and painting for Rappone Motors in Sheridan and repaired and sold old houses.  For many years, he was the maintenance supervisor at the YMCA, until retiring.

A life member of Sheridan Elks Lodge and the American Legion, he was a member of First Christian Church; and loved to fish and go to the mountains.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years of Sheridan; brother, Perry Barnes Jr. of Casper; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister and a stepson.
