Elizabeth Barbara “Betty” Barina, 82, of Sheridan died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Name Catholic Church with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Miss Barina was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Monarch to Joseph and Anna (Fashung) Barina.

She attended Holy Name School in Sheridan and was a 1937 graduate of Sheridan High School. She attended the Sisters of Divine Providence School of Nursing in Bellingham, Wash., and the Columbus Hospital School of Nursing in Great Falls, Mont. She also trained in Chicago and at the Northwest Institute of Technology in Minneapolis to become a registered laboratory and X-ray technician.

She began her medical career in Sheridan in 1946 at the old Sheridan County Memorial Hospital and later worked for Drs. H.J. Aldrich and James Sampson. She was office nurse and technician for Dr. Peter M. Schunk for 30 years, then became school nurse at the Wyoming Girls School until retiring in 1987. She was a lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic Church and directed the preschool program for 13 years.

She enjoyed travel, reading, rose gardening and fly-fishing and loved the mountains. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Meyer and Anna Jackson. Survivors include a brother, Paul of Santa Paula, Calif.; her good friend, Virginia Cooper of Sheridan; two nieces; a nephew; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. SHERIDAN - Funeral Mass for Sheridan resident Elizabeth Barbara "Betty" Barina, 82, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Sheridan by the Rev. Ron Stolcis.  Interment will follow in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

She died March 25, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Born Aug. 22, 1920, in Monarch, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Fashung) Barina; attended Holy Name School in Sheridan; and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1937.

She then attended the Sisters of Divine Providence School of Nursing in Bellingham, Wash., and Columbus Hospital School of Nursing in Great Falls, Mont.
