OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - August 27 2003

SHERIDAN - Memorial services for Sheridan resident Mary E. Adami, 84, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at Champion-Ferries Funeral Home in Sheridan by the Rev. Douglas Goodwin. Inurnment of cremains will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

She died Aug. 22, 2003, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

Born Nov. 18, 1918, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred and Mary (Ramsey) Welter; and, as a young child, moved with her family to Sheridan, where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Sheridan High School.

She worked as a bookkeeper in California and Denver before moving to Chicago, where she worked in a military factory.

In about 1950, she married Malden McGill Sr.

They lived in many places with the military. She returned to Sheridan in 1966 and worked for the U.S. Forest Service until purchasing and managing Big C Service and Supply in Casper.

While in Casper, she received the Wyoming businesswoman of the year award.

On Oct. 5, 1979, she married Melvin Adami in Story.

She retired in 1982 and the couple moved to Rapid City, S.D., in 1986. They returned to Sheridan in 1999.

An attendee of First Christian Church, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, traveling, and dancing.

Survivors include her husband of 23 years and son, Mal McGill, both of Sheridan; stepson, Bradley Adami of Rapid City; stepdaughter, Lori Walters of Fargo, N.D.; brother, Fred Welter of Story; two sisters, Viva Nelson of Sheridan and Lucille Leonard of Los Altos Hills, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Lanting and Ruth Baker; and a half-brother, Gerald Lyons.
