OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - January 21, 2003

SHERIDAN - Services for Sheridan resident Mae Johnson, 84, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Sheridan by Pastor Doug Melius.  Cremation has taken place.

She died Jan. 19, 2003, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

Born May 1, 1918, in Sheridan, she was the daughter of Peter and Christine Sorensen; and was raised and educated there.

On Oct. 2, 1937, she married Milton W. Johnson in Sheridan.

They owned and operated the Banner Store for 19 years.  She retired in October 1999, after 40 years of service as Banner's postmistress.  The hardest part of her retirement was leaving her friends and customers.

She was an elder at First Presbyterian Church and a member of Banner Women's Club and National Association of Postmasters of the United States.

Her hobbies included making friends, serving customers at the store and post office, and gardening.  She fondly remembered many years of league bowling and postal conventions.

Survivors include four children, Milton Johnson Jr. and Bobbie Stratton and her husband, both of Casper, Harold Johnson of Sheridan and Gordon Johnson and his wife of Prescott, Ariz.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Emmons, and her husband of Lompoc, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years in 1990; and a brother, Frank Sorensen, in 1964.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Sheridan.
