MILES CITY--Stanley Lawrence Plachek, age 82, of Miles City passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care Unit in Miles City.
 
Stanley was born in Acme, Wyo., on April 3, 1918, the son of Joseph and Anna Plachek.  He attended school and graduated from high school in Sheridan, Wyo.  While in high school, Stanley was active in track and was the quarterback of the football team.  Following high school, he went to work for JC Penney stores where he worked for 42 years.  He worked in Sheridan, Wyo., Roundup, Mont., and Williston, N.D.  Stanley married Laura Njos on May 31, 1947, in Williston, N.D.  He then managed his first store in Drake, N.D. for two years.  They then transferred to Red Lodge, Mont., where he ran the JC Penney Store for five years.

Stanley learned how to fly fish and became a master at it.  In 1954, they moved to Worland, Wyo., where they lived for two and a half years before the family moved to Miles City where Stanley ran the JC Penney Store.  In 1977, Stanley retired from JC Penney and went to work for the Miles City School District in central supply where he worked until 1992 when he retired.

Stanley enjoyed reading and loved cars.  He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Elks, Eagles, Town & Country Club, and was a past member of the Rotary Club and the Miles City Club.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Laura Plachek of Miles City; two daughters, Judy Zadow and her husband Bob of Miles City and JoAnne Robinson and her husband Dale of Elk River, Minn.; four grandchildren, Nicole Nistler of Saint Cloud, Minn., Marisa Zadow of Bozeman, Mont., Erik Zadow of Portland, Ore., and Aaron Zadow of Miles City; and a sister, Helen Palin of Leight Acres, Fla.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will begin Tuesday in the chapel in Miles City.  Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Miles City.  Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County Cemetery.  Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
