Anchorage resident Jean Erin Hobein, 90, died Nov. 2, 2006, at Providence Extended Care Center of natural causes.

No local service is planned. A graveside service will be next summer in Sheridan, Wyo.

Mrs. Hobein was born March 17, 1916, in Newcastle, Wyo., to Grover and Christine Taylor. She lived and worked in Sheridan until marrying her husband, Byron Hobein. They moved to San Francisco while he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. There she was employed by the United Nations.

In 1948, they moved to Anchorage, where he managed Hudson's Shoe Store. A short time later he opened his own shoe store. Mrs. Hobein did the bookkeeping for the new store.

Mrs. Hobein was a past matron of Chapter 8 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Pioneers of Alaska and active in the First United Methodist Church until her health began to fail. She traveled the world and enjoyed several cruises with her husband. She enjoyed traveling to the family cabin at Cooper Landing every summer and was the prize angler, always catching the most fish.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Terry Stewart; grandson and his wife, Shane and Michele; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Lance, Amber and Micheal, all of Anchorage; and brother, Grover "Bud" Taylor of Juneau.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron; brother, Ty; and sister, Helen.

Arrangements are with Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
