OBITUARIES - THE SHERIDAN PRESS - September 6, 2001

Clyde Hix Rowe, 92, of Lander died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001.

Services were Wednesday.

Mr. Rowe was born Oct. 18, 1908, at Urbana, Ill., to Howard and Flora (Hix) Rowe. The family moved to Sheridan, and he graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934.

He married Mittie Mae Cox Oct. 2, 1936. During World War II, he was a "listener" who monitored radio transmissions for the Department of Secret Service.  He had three shops in Lander for radio and later television repair.

He was a master gunsmith and lapidarian. He was a founder of the Lander One Shot Antelope Hunt.

Survivors include grandchildren Teho and Dennis Powers of Sheridan and Carol Stamm and Bruce Corbett of Lander; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter and a brother.
