John Battista DESTEFANO 1915 - 2009 SHS 1934

John Battista Destefano, 93, of Sheridan, WY, passed away September 6, 2009, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

John was born November 21, 1915, in Sheridan to Bart and Martha (Randono) Destefano. He graduated from Sheridan High School and worked many years as a banker at First Interstate Bank.

As a participant in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and later in the Pacific Theater, he served his country honorably during World War II.

John enjoyed golfing, hunting, playing cards and time spent with family members.

John was a member of Holy Name Church and Knights of Columbus.

For many years, he served on the Thornrider Foundation and the Griffith Foundation Boards.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Battista Destefano and brother-in-law, Walter Salveson.

He is survived by his sister, Lucy Salveson, two brothers, Alfred and Arthur Destefano and nieces Nancy (Dennis) Nelson, Mary (Steve) Harker, Sandy Destefano, Stephanie (Marshall) Townsend, Erin (Jake) Lingo, Gillian Destefano, Sophia Destefano, Sue (Don) Beck, Terry (Ed) Henson, and nephews Ron (Cinder) Destefano, Rich Destefano, Darold (Jennifer) Destefano, Jim (Emily) Nelson, Gene Nelson, Brent Destefano, Dominic Destefano, AJ Destefano, Jace Townsend, and Eugene Destefano.

Mass of the Christian Burial was Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Stolcis officiating. Interment followed at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Kane Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
