OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - July 20, 2001

SHERIDAN - Funeral Mass for Doris Pierson, 87 will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Satuday at Holy Name Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ron Stolcis officiating.  Interment will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery, with her husband.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home.

She died July 18, 2001, at the Wyoming Retirement Center in Basin.

She was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Sheridan, the daughter of John and Margaret (Wilson) Zucca.  She had lived in Sheridan until January when she moved to Basin to be with her children.

On Feb. 18, 1934, she married Herbert 'Herb' Pierson in the Holy Name Catholic Church Rectory.

She worked at Stevens Fryberger (New York Store) for several years, then went to work at the Wyoming State Girls School in 1964 until retirement.  She spent the next 20 years working as a housekeeper and cook for the priests at Holy Name Rectory.

She was an excellent cook and an avid card player.  She enjoyed crafts and gardening.  In earlier years, she loved to hunt and spend time in the Big Horns.  She also loved to travel, making several trips to Europe.

She was a charter member of BPOE Does and Past Exalted Rulers.  She worked with the Wyoming Crippled Children Association and served on the All American Indian Days Board, traveling with various Miss Indian Americas as a chaperone and serving as a host home for the Indian princesses.

Survivors include two children, Kathy Nyberg and her husband and John Pierson, both of Basin; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Colin Zucca; a sister, Katherine Strutzman; a nephew; and a granddaughter.
