WORLAND -- Funeral services for longtime Wyoming resident Edwin "Ted" Vance Newcomer, 93, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center in Worland with Bishop Jack Stott officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.

Visitation will be held from noon until the time of services in the Relief Society Room at the Church.

He died in Benton City, Wash., on March 9, 2007, where he lived with daughter, Corlet, for three years.

He was born Nov.15, 1913 on Prairie Dog Creek near Sheridan, to Ed and Eva Newcomer.

He graduated from University of Wyoming with decrees in animal husbandry and agronomy, earning a teaching certificate, as well.

He married his college sweetheart, Wilma Adele Donaldson in Sheridan on Aug. 15, 1938. He first supported his family by teaching Vocational Agriculture classes in Burns, Lander, and Buffalo. He then was a post WWII agriculture trainer for returning veterans in the Buffalo area.

In Buffalo, they made their home on the Clear Creek for 23 years. In 1953 he began managing the Northern Wyoming Federal Land Bank until his retirement in 1978. A job transfer led to Worland, where they resided for 34 years.

They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary three months before her death in 1998.

He was an active participant in community activities everywhere he lived. In Buffalo, he was the Branch President for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an 18 month couples’ mission in Hawaii for the church.

He gardened and crafted wood projects in his workshop, but his great love was playing in a dance band no matter where the location. His clarinet was always with him, hoping for a chance to tinkle a few tunes. He played by ear on sax and clarinet using this talent nearly every Friday and Saturday for about 71 years. In Buffalo, he played with Beulah and Her Boys, and in Worland, he played with the Knights of Note.

Survivors include his children Ted, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Corlet, Benton City, Wash.; Anna Beth, Hillsboro, Ore.; Fred of Evanston, Christine of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Ralph, of Sheridan; 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ruth and Esther, two brothers, Earl and Fred, and his wife.

Memorials may be made to the Worland Senior Center in care of Bryant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 524, Worland, 82401. Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
