Carl Frank McCoy, 95, of Sheridan died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Sheridan VA Medical Center after a brief illness, according to family.

Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Chaplain Arden Haeffner officiating. Burial will follow in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Wyoming National Guard and Sheridan American Legion. A luncheon at the Sheridan Senior Center will follow the graveside service.

Born Jan. 4, 1914, in Sheridan to Charles and Mary (Lyle) McCoy, he attended Sheridan schools and graduated from Sheridan High School.

He served in World War II as a tank driver in Italy and North Africa for three years and received the Purple Heart.

After the war, he returned to Sheridan and worked 30 years for Cook Ford.

He enjoyed wildlife, his garden, his Kubota tractor, and his favorite cat, Charles.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lyle, Bob and Jack; and three sisters, Grace, Helen and Ester.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may benefit Sheridan Cat & Dog Shelter or Sheridan Senior Center.
