Vendeta (Vennie) Wheeler JAMES Fox 1912 - 2012 SHS 1932

Vendeta (Vennie) Fox passed away on December 29, 2012 at the age of 100.

Vennie was born on April 14, 1912 in Davis City, Iowa. Her parents were Charles and Jesse (Daniels) Wheeler. She came to Sheridan, WY in 1927, with her mother and stepfather, Fred James. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1932.

Vennie married her high school sweetheart, Lester Fox, in 1932 in Hardin, Montana. They ranched in the Clearmont and Sheridan areas living with no running water or electricity at times.

Vennie did some amazing jobs in her time from driving tractors to helping build the Sheridan Airport runways during World War II to working at the Mills Printing Company. She also worked at the Wyoming Girls School and as a nurse's aide at the hospital.

In 1952 Vennie and her husband began and operated The Fox Dairy south of Sheridan.

They had one son, Dean Fox, who later took over the dairy.

Vennie belonged to the Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors, Eastern Star, The VFW, DOES, and the Wakely Club.

She enjoyed poetry, working in the yard and garden, taking care of her large quantity of barn cats, going for coffee with her friends playing bingo and the slots in Deadwood.

Vennie and her husband traveled extensively going to South America, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and the World's Fair in Seattle.

She loved to tell a good joke or story to a crowd of people. Her happy attitude, love of life, and mischievous smile will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; son, Dean; three brothers Tom Wheeler of South Dakota, Don Wheeler and Kenneth Wheeler of Missouri.

She is survived by her sister Shirley Moore of Independence, Missouri; daughter-in-law Pat Fox-Drake (Dick) of Cheyenne; grandchildren Christine (Jeff) Hilliard of Kingwood, Texas, Kevin Fox of Sheridan, and Janet (John) Peyrot of Sheridan. Her great-grandchildren are Carissa, Zachary, and Griffin Hilliard; Ashley and Brayton Fox; Cole and Jacy Peyrot. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013 from Champion Ferries Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Interment will follow at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, Elks Section. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.

Memorials can be given to the Elks Cemetery fund, 45 W. Brundage Street, Sheridan, WY, or the Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 E. Ridge Road, Sheridan, WY.
