Josephine POWERS Parker 1913 - 2003 SHS 1931
OBITUARIES (paid) - THE SHERIDAN PRESS - December 4 2003

Josephine Powers Parker died early Thanksgiving morning 2003 after a brief illness.

She was born July 12, 1913, the eighth of ten children born to Roy H. and Roxa Powers on their homesteaded ranch near Quietus, Montana. Jo graduated from 8th grade at the small school near the Forked Lightning Ranch, and then moved on to Sheridan High School where she graduated in 1931. After high school she attended teacher training in South Dakota, then taught school near Spotted Horse, Wyoming.

During a school break, Jo Powers met Joe Parker at the Big Horn Mercantile. Three months later they were married. Jo and Joe settled in Sheridan where they raised their four children and were active in community affairs.

Josephine was a true partner to her husband, a fine mother, a loyal friend. She was also a shy, introspective, bright woman. Her quest for spiritual and personal growth was the essence of her life. She worshiped at St. Peter's Episcopal Church where she was an active member. Jo loved to play bridge and she loved the women with whom she played for over fifty years. Her garden was her joy and her home was always beautiful. She was quietly intense about politics and lifelong Democrat.

Sadly, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Parker, and all of her brothers (Victor, Harry, Jerry) and sisters (Gladys, Mildred, Marjorie, Betty, Dee).

Her children, Dave Parker, Linda Davis, Ginger Stout and Joyce Carroll, eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive her. Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive Jo.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday, December 20, 2003 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church aat 10:30 a.m.

Memorials may be made to Lifelink of Sheridan County, PO Box 2095 or the charity of the donor's choice.
