SHERIDAN -- Memorial services for Sheridan resident Evelyn Blanch Wood, 95, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sheridan by Bishop Richard Welch.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Kane Funeral Home of Sheridan.

She died Jan. 3, 2005, in Sheridan, of natural causes.

Born April 15, 1909, in Sheridan, she was the daughter of Olaf and Bertha (Miller) Nelson; was raised on her father's ranch on Beaver Creek; and graduated from Sheridan High School. She then filed for a homestead on Beaver Creek and proved up on it five years later.

On Aug. 23, 1934, she married Roy M. Wood.

They worked for many years on the WS Ranch in Wyarno before purchasing their own place south of Sheridan in 1945. The couple ran a dairy there until 1960, then bought a ranch in Clearmont. They worked the OX ranch, principally raising registered Red Angus cattle and children, until their retirement in 1981.

She enjoyed outdoor activities, including riding and fishing; was an excellent horsewoman and trainer; and loved her family. In addition to her children, she raised several foster children and cared for many more.

A member of the LDS Church, she was a long-time member of Clearmont Women's Club and Cattle Women's Club and actively promoted 4-H.

Survivors include her daughter, Ethel Sheets of Sheridan; two sons, Ola Ray Wood of Powell and McKinley D. Wood of Gillette; five foster children, Georgia Rice and Richard Sickler of Gillette, Robert Sickler of Texas, Becky Dean of Colorado and Stormy Calentine of Sheridan; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000, after 66 years of marriage; her parents; two sisters, Margaret Morrow and Lillian Parmeter; and a brother, Andrew Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Child Advocacy of the Big Horns, in care of Kane Funeral Home, 689 Meridian St., Sheridan, WY 82801.
