OBITURIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - November 27 2003

SHERIDAN - Funeral services for Sheridan resident Helen McCalla, 94, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan by the Rev. Ray Clark. Interment will follow in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28.

She died Nov. 25, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

Born Feb. 22, 1909, in Sheridan, she was the daughter of T.G. and Luetta (Smith) Scott. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1927 and St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Mont., as a registered nurse in 1931.

On Aug. 18, 1933, she married Maurice McCalla in Deadwood, S.D.

She was a registered nurse at MHSC for 25 years and was the first coordinator for the hospice in Sheridan when it began in 1984, continuing for 7-1/2 years.

A member of the Social Order of Beauceant and First Congregational Church, she was past matron of Naomi Chapter No. 2, Order of Eastern Star; and grand representative to Washington state. She enjoyed needlework and sewing; reading; cooking; fishing; and, especially, her family.

Survivors include her son, Terry McCalla of Upton; daughter, Carol Ann Copp of Ranchester; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1960, after 27 years of marriage; parents; a brother; a sister; and a great-grandson.
