SHERIDAN - Services are pending for Martha "Alice" McConnaughey, 93, who died July 28, 2002, in Sheridan Manor.

She was born Jan. 21, 1909, in Highland County, Ohio, the daughter of John W. and Elva (Willett) McConnaughey.  In 1916, she moved to Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1927.

While in high school, she worked for F. W. Woolworth and continued there throughout her life, retiring in 1974.  During the World War II years, she was an assistant manager in Casper and a manager in Miles City, Mont.
Later, she traveled to new Woolworth stores and set up their offices.

After retirement, she traveled to all the places she wanted to see and, for several years, worked at Bi-Rite in Sheridan.

A member of First United Methodist Church of Sheridan, she kept track of her many friends and relatives and made jelly and other things for them on a regular basis.  She also made quilts for all of her family, from pieces her mother had put together.

Survivors include her sister, Nellie Kaufmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Champion-Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
