OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - December 2 2003

SHERIDAN - Services for Sheridan resident Floyd C. "Stub" Barbour, 98, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 2, at Champion-Ferries Funeral Home in Sheridan by Pastor Doug Melius. Burial will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

He died Nov. 26, 2003, at his home.

Born March 7, 1905, in Indian Territory near Nowata, Okla., he was the son of Clyde and Mallissa (Patchett) Barbour; and moved to Newcastle with his father, brothers and sisters in 1915. He then moved to Sheridan in 1923 as a junior in high school and played football and basketball.

On Feb. 6, 1932, he married Selena Morgan in Billings, Mont.

He was a welder and boilermaker for the CB&Q Railroad in Sheridan and worked in the roundhouse. After retiring in the mid-1950s, he was a welder in the Monarch tipple; and then worked for Paul Dowdy's gas station in Sheridan. He retired in 1971.

A member of First Presbyterian Church in Sheridan, he served as a deacon for many years; and belonged to Sheridan Elks Lodge. After retiring, he was an avid golfer and played nearly every day into his 80s; he had a hole-in-one the same year as President Gerald Ford. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Barbara of Laramie; eight grandchildren; 12-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Virginia McClintock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Russell, Guy and Vern; two sisters, Vera and Grace; a son, Phillip; and a daughter, Marilyn.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
