Clifford COX 1905 - 1987 SHS 1923

STORY, Wyo. - Clifford Cox, a lifelong resident of the Sheridan area, ranched on upper Prairie Dog Creek until 1948, then worked for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for 22 years, retiring as a superintendent in 1970.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and fixing things.

Mr. Cox, 81, died Thursday in Sheridan Memorial Hospital after an illness.

He was born in Sheridan, a son of Samuel and Anna Allen Cox. He attended Sheridan schools, graduating from Sheridan High School in 1923.

He married Retha Fields on Dec. 12, 1929, in Sheridan.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carmen Quimet of Story; a son, Marlin of Ten Sleep; a sister, Helen Shields of Peoria, Ariz.; a brother, Don of Sheridan; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Masonic services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Champion Funeral Home with burial in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
